WINDS OF SORROW / video mapping installation
This video mapping installation describes the tragic events of the Khojaly Genocide that occurred in Azerbaijan.
The project named “Winds of Sorrow” was shown in the central square of Prague (Czech Republic). Our team created the project through an initiative by the "Azerbaijan Student Network / ASN" and was supported by "INDEX". The project of the Czech studio "Black Division" was presented on that day as well.
The Khojaly Genocide happened in one night from February 25-26, 1992, where hundreds of innocent people were brutally killed with 613 dead including 106 women and 63 children. In addition, 487 were disabled, 1,275 captured, and 150 were missing. The terror was a tragedy not only for the nation of Azerbaijan, but also was one of the bloodiest events of the 20th century. In this project, we paid attention to every detail of this terrible part of history, showing events from the minimalist art style. All animation is devoid of the color palette – only black and white. In our vision, this color palette was the most appropriate way to reflect the tragic history of Khojaly. One essential part that we included in our project was showcasing Chingiz Mustafayev, a journalist and National Hero of Azerbaijan. We paid special attention to creating a soundtrack that would deeply immerse the viewer in an atmosphere full of despair.
We are proud to have created a project in memory of the victims of the Khojaly tragedy. Thanks to the organization, "Azerbaijan Student Network / ASN", for allowing us to present it to the European audience.
